The WCN 2025 Bombay blood group transplant abstract marked a historic moment in renal science. I am proud to share that at the World Congress of Nephrology (WCN) 2025 in New Delhi, our team at MIOT Hospitals first announced a massive leap forward in transplant immunology.

The abstract, titled “A QUANTUM LEAP IN RENAL SCIENCE: THE FIRST EVER ABH INCOMPATIBLE RENAL TRANSPLANT IN A RECIPIENT WITH BOMBAY BLOOD PHENOTYPE,” was presented to the global nephrology community. As the senior and lead author, I had the privilege of leading the team that made this achievement possible.
This conference presentation detailed the world’s first successful kidney transplant in a patient with the Bombay blood phenotype—a condition previously considered an absolute contraindication for transplantation due to the presence of potent anti-H antibodies.

Following this presentation, the full clinical details of the case were peer-reviewed and published in the American Journal of Transplantation.
